Question: What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
People judge us all the time, or so it seems, and the harshest judgements seemingly come from those who are closest to us in our friends and our family. While this may seem true, I believe that getting down to the core (stripping back the layers) of what is actually true that you will find it is really you judging yourself in that big mirror. That judgement comes from fear and fear is what holds us back.
Think about it for a second. Go back to a moment in your life when you were about to step out on a limb and you stopped dead in your tracks because the voice inside your head was saying “You can’t do that, everyone will think you’re crazy”. You know that you should step out onto that limb because that is where the fruit is and when you look out onto that limb, there is a lot of room to move out there because everyone else is holding on to the trunk for safety.
Making a Decision
Holding on to that trunk for a long time can be extremely painful and eventually the arms and legs will fatigue and then finally stop serving you. Somewhere along the way you will have to do something about it before it is too late. You have two choices:
- Do nothing and continue holding on for dear life until you exit unfulfilled – OR – go out on that limb to where the fruit is.
Fact is we all have to make big decisions in life hopefully before it is too late. Making a decision liberates us; it frees us from the cage. There is this thing called the “Knowing-Doing” gap. This is where we know what to do and it comes from within and we just need to stop and listen. You see, it is our fear(s) that stops us from actually doing it. Fear of being judged, fear of rejection, fear of failure and so on. Let’s look at it more closely though and ask yourself, “Has your greatest fear ever come true”? I would guess that for most of us probably not even close.
Stepping out on that Limb in Awareness
My partner and best friend Jodi recently asked me this: “Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?” I can say for certain that I was holding on to that trunk and I am so grateful that she asked me that question. As a result I began working on increasing my own awarness resulting in thinking a little deeper and listening more to those who have ventured out on to that limb and succeeded. They have confirmed that there is life out there on that limb and that you can begin to breathe again. You can see everything around you more clearly and it fills your heart with gratitude. They will also share that you needn’t worry about the others “holding on” back at the trunk either because you have just showed them a way and they now know it is possible. I say this because you cannot convince anyone of anything until their moment arrives and they are now aware that they need to do something different in order to get different results. Awareness is huge when we step out and awareness is so often small or lost when we get bogged down with the day to day activities of just trying to survive and “hold on”. Awareness is also a choice and by choice we can do what we came here to do. Just know that it is never too late to come into awareness and make a decision.
I would like to leave you with a fitting song from Quiet Evolution called “Liars & Lovers”
Good luck on your journey and we would love it if you would share your successes.
